Writing: building a foundation for reading.

We used symbols to represent sound also known as the alphabet.  Soon, we will be able to use the sounds to represent words instead of individual sounds which will allow us to write our own thoughts, and accomplishments.  This will aid in communication, expression, and independence.  We used our index fingers to write in the air, on the ground and finally on paper.  In your child’s folder you should see a handwriting sample of their name and of the alphabet.  Don’t worry if your child did not complete, as we all are developing on various levels.  Each student was eager to practice writing their names at home.  Plus you can play sound games by taking any object and talk about the beginning, middle and ending sound.
