Thu, 01 Oct 2015 22:24:11 +0000 Read more]]> There were some amazing conversations this afternoon about spiders, hurricanes, plants, chalk, etc. For our project, we took a bucket of chalk and a bucket of water & paintbrushes outside. The children tried to determine what would happen if you pressed too hard with chalk, soaked the chalk with water, and how the chalk art would change if we painted water on our art. It was so fascinating! We really enjoyed the changes seen. :)

Encore: Cooperation Sat, 26 Sep 2015 00:55:43 +0000 Read more]]> Everyone held hands and created a circle. Then, we took turns kicking a ball. The rules were that if the ball goes in between two people, those people are out, or if the ball goes over someone’s head, the kicker is out. We worked together to keep a ball inside our circle of friends. One of our parents joined in the fun, too.

Next, we used various practical life skills to create Moon Sand. We had to scoop, pour, sift, mix, etc to get the job done! Everyone liked the texture of the sand, and hopefully will enjoy the final product.

Peace Tue, 01 Sep 2015 23:16:32 +0000 Read more]]> For the next two weeks, we will be discussing PEACE. We will talk about what it means, how we offer it, how it makes us feel, how can we create it, etc.

At the Toddler and Primary levels, the young child places herself in the natural and human world through the presentation of geographic materials, cultural and scientific study. Globes and maps are studied, as are peoples, animals and plants of the world. These studies engender understanding and respect of different places, needs and beliefs, and are approached through art, music, history and science, and through practices of recycling and bird feeding. Young children contribute to the peaceful classroom by keeping materials orderly, respecting others’ work spaces, controlling movement and sound, and participating in the group circle, both as listener and speaker. The tools for expressing emotions respectfully and resolving conflict peacefully are introduced at the primary level, and one may see two three-year-olds, with the help of a teacher, talking through a dispute.

On the 21st, we will take a peace walk to several of our business partners on Main Street and in the Rock Hill downtown area. We will offer them peace, sing a song of peace and present them with a peace wreath made from our students hands to be displayed at their business.

Peace is a graciously undeserved gift from Him that is always available to me.

Yoga Benefits Wed, 18 Feb 2015 22:50:18 +0000 Read more]]> Yoga registrations are due Feb. 20, with your payment made in the next week.

Yoga is an exercise, meditation and life practice that helps you to be closer to the inner self.

Benefits of Yoga:

 1. Enhancing concentration: When your child gets used to the asanas or postures of yoga, they automatically improve their concentration skills. Ancient sages used yoga as a form of meditation, and their powers of concentration are legendary. Your child learns how to sit still in one place and focus on what’s important as opposed to letting their mind wander and be distracted easily. This helps them in their lessons and at school, boosts their attention span and improves their grades.
 2. Increasing flexibility and balance: Yoga helps improve flexibility and balance and tones their muscles too. It makes them stronger and less likely to suffer sprains and fractures through accidental falls.
 3. Improving general well-being: Kids who practice yoga regularly feel good about themselves and are healthier and happier than those who don’t. They feel both mentally and physically rejuvenated after a yoga session and this improves their mental and physical health.
 4. Boosting confidence: When your child is able to display great agility and flexibility, it does wonders for their confidence. Their improved performance at school also helps boost their popularity and their self assurance. They become more poised and start to believe in their abilities. This feeling provides them with the adrenaline they need to achieve success in all their endeavors.
 5. Relaxing their minds: Even kids are subject to a great deal of stress these days because of their workload at school and the high expectations that their parents have for them. They are pushed to be achievers at every single point of their lives, and when they fail, they take it to heart and become depressed. Yoga helps them relax and de-stress when they feel upset or depressed. It soothes their frayed minds and helps them get back to a normal mental state.
