Jan19 Welcome Mateo!! Tue, 19 Jan 2016 19:05:54 +0000 Read more]]> We are so excited to have a new friend in our classroom.  His name is Mateo.  We sang a good morning song and introduced ourselves in Spanish.

Everyone worked well. Mrs. Noah’s class went to the cafe for practice on the metal insets, and are trying to make a book of all of the shapes.

During Spanish class, we sang our body song.  We know eyes-el ojo , nose-nariz, ears-las orejas, head-la cabeza, mouth-la boca, belly-.  We practiced our days of the week, months of the year, colors, and learned good morning: beunos dias, and good night-Buenas noches.

We had movement and yoga in the ballet room upstairs.

Pe: Animal movement Fri, 15 Jan 2016 19:45:19 +0000 Read more]]> We tried the following things:

Star jumps:  We said “arms out” and jumped landing with our arms and legs out like a star.  Then, we shouted “arms in” and jumped  landing straight with our arms at our sides.   Finally, we tried to do as many star jumps as we could in 20 seconds.  Some said that they did 3, 20 and 100.

Funny running:  We guessed the secret animal which is grey, has 4 legs, 1 tail, and a trunk.  We were shown how real elephants run, and we figured out how we could run with four legs instead of 2.  Our classes had a race across the gym running like these animals, but they couldn’t start until we counted to 10.

Teepee-pencil:  Everyone was free to walk around the gym, but when we shouted “teepee”–they had to put both hands above their head and stand still or if we shouted “pencil”–they had to stand with their hands out to the sides.

Fri. Jan 15 Fri, 15 Jan 2016 19:32:44 +0000 Read more]]> We had a celebration of life for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  We began by reading a book about his life.  Then, some of our friends walked around the sun with our Earth.  Finally, we all took a moment of silence because he is no longer living.  We took a deep breathe and blew out the candle for peace and love for our future.

Everyone watched a short video which showed Mr. King at the White House delivering his speech.  Then, we all made a craft with some words he used in his speech and towards those he came in contact with.

Today we went back to a portion of our church called the Sanctuary and reviewed some parts of the Sanctuary.  We sang Jesus Loves Me and were beginning to learn “This little light of mine”.  We listened to this version by Raffi:

We prayed on the alter a prayer adapted from 1 Timothy 6:7

Winter, Spring

Summer and Fall,

The Lord above,

He made them all.

And though the seasons,

Change you see

God still provides

My every need!

Wed. Jan 13 Wed, 13 Jan 2016 18:58:10 +0000 Read more]]> Today was Art class.  It was great to be able to learn about penguins.  We now should know that penguins only live in limited areas on our planet.  Mainly, they live on or near Antarctica.  They are also near Austrailia, Africa and South America.  In addition to reviewing our continents, we were shown various types of penguins and what their feet look like.  It was interesting to see that the feet were different between the species.

Everyone made their own penguin mosaic.  We used a pre-cutting lesson of tearing paper to fit the pieces of paper within an outline of the penguin.  We could choose what color feet the penguin should have, and tried to use white for the belly and black for the wings, head and back.  The beaks were mostly orange.

All of the students can not wait to share their creations with their families.  :)

Mon. Jan 11 Wed, 13 Jan 2016 18:47:56 +0000 Read more]]> Today was music class.  We went to our music room to practice loud and soft sounds of the weather.  The weather we were focused on was rain, hail and snow.  Our bodies were used for the instruments.  Snow sound was made by tapping our pointer fingers together.  Rain was made with our hands tapping our thighs.  Finally, hail was made by our mouths saying “bop, bop, bop” loudly.  We created a big storm, and then tried to make other sounds with our bodies.

In addition to our lessons, we are talking about Artic Animals.  We read a book about them yesterday, but in the middle stopped to determine if we could guess another animal which we thought would live in the Artic.  Today, we found out that reindeer, yellow fish, snails (sea snails), octopi, fish, and whales live there, but penguins, brown bears, and crocodiles do not.

All of our continents are being introduced this week, so we can begin our Asian trip soon.  We have already talked a bit about Japan and Taiwan and two songs that children sing in that area.

We had a lot of fun especially in Spanish class.  Mrs. Brantley helped us to review our colors in Spanish using what we were wearing today!   We blasted off in our rockets by counting to 10, and then worked on our days of the week.  We sang a song about some of our body parts including our head, eyes, nose, ears and mouth.

10 days of giving: Day 4 Fri, 11 Dec 2015 19:20:19 +0000 Read more]]> All of the primary classes went for a walk together today.  We found a lady named Miss. Mary Anne, and Aiden gave his gift to her.  She was thrilled to open it in front of the students.  Mary Anne was pleased to have gum for a present and told us that she was a chorus teacher for over 20 years.  Everyone thought that was a long time and Madisyn said that was amazing!  We sang the first verse of Away in a Manger and Happy Birthday Jesus!

Miss Mary Anne wished that we would all be able to have things this Christmas that don’t cost money including:

  1. Health
  2. Happiness
  3. A loving family
  4. World peace

Along our walk, we gathered together around Jimmy John’s, and Javien noticed a lady in the window waving.  We asked her to come outside with us and Javien gave his gift to her.  Her name was Miss Janice, and she was elated to have all of our friends, especially Javien, wish her a Merry Christmas.  She will be able to stay warm this Winter with her new coffee cup and soft gloves.  :)

10 days of giving: Days 1-3 Thu, 10 Dec 2015 04:11:23 +0000 Read more]]> We all were excited to be able to wrap the presents on Monday.  We went on an early morning walk and Vedi gave a gift to a man breaking down the Christmasville tent.  Everyone was joyously singing our Christmas songs on our adventure.

Yesterday, the Sigma Sigma Sigma girls made our day!  The various holiday crafts were creative, fun, and memorable.  We sang to the ladies helping us make the icare kits.  They all chanted their sorority’s songs for us, too.

Today, we took a walk on Main St and quickly found Katerina.  Gavin gave her a gift, but wanted to sing two songs to her, so we all sang along.  She graciously accepted the opportunity to listen to us and opened our gift before we parted ways.  Everyone was pleased to see she had a calendar to remind her of us for the year to come.
