Our care of the child should be governed, not by the desire to make him learn things, but by the endeavor always to keep burning within him that light which is called intelligence.

This is how we roll…. our rugs. Fri, 18 Sep 2015 21:31:27 +0000 Read more]]> IMG_2831 IMG_2826

These are videos of a couple of our friends rolling their rugs.  We are working hard with all of our friends to make sure that they are able to roll their rugs independently and correctly.  Some of our friends need more practice, but we are all on our way to mastering this task.

Today, each child has one of our classroom rugs in their bookbag.  We sent this home so that they are able to work on rolling a rug.  Please wash, roll, and return their rug to school on Monday!!

A work rug helps your child to work within a defined area and shows that we’re careful not to step on our lovely things.

We have a lesson write-up for unrolling and rolling work rugs. Once again, you might ask, “Why so meticulous?” We want to foster attention to detail that will be very helpful in all kinds of later work.

How To Present the Montessori Work Rug

Direct Purpose of Presenting the Work Rug: to learn the movements necessary to roll up items

Indirect Purpose of Presenting the Work Rug: muscular control of fingers and hands, independence, and concentration.

Work cycle…. Fri, 09 Jan 2015 19:05:34 +0000 Read more]]> We have a work cycle that begins as soon as your child enters the room and continues until we go for gross motor enhancement.  Your child begins with their journal.  This is where your child gets to express themselves and tell a story about their work.  There are various stages of writing. Please check out this site for details.

After their journal, your child has the freedom to choose to work at a table or on a rug.  Every lesson is very important, and we care about everything greatly.  We have lessons in language, sensorial, math, practical life, and geography/social studies.  After completing the lesson, it is returned to the shelf and a new lesson is chosen.

A Beautiful Wednesday… Thu, 09 Oct 2014 02:39:27 +0000 Read more]]> noah 4We got off to a great start this morning when Max/Mr.Lentz brought in a floral arrangement from their butterfly garden.  It was complete with a couple of spiders and we had a great teachable moment.   Mrs. Boulware was even brave enough to catch a spider.  Both spiders were released into the nearby bushes.    Thank you for the wonderful gift.

We took a brisk walk to the library.  While we were there, we read various books about Autumn.  Everyone was asked to put fall leaves on a tree, and our students were saying the colors in Spanish!!!!  We used rhythm sticks, and then, watched a show about a late blooming tiger.  There are a few papers from the library in your child’s folder including a coloring sheet, the various classes they are hosting, and books great for Toddlers.  It was a great time, and we encourage any parent to join us the next time we walk to the library.
